The Office of Social Policy and Research is a department within Catholic Family Center, which is the Monroe County regional office of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester. It is staffed by Marvin Mich, Director, and Brigit Hurley, Parish Social Ministry Coordinator. Standing up for what's right, especially when it comes to the underserved and poor in our community, is something we care deeply about. Our services teach parishioners, staff, and clients to use their voice, to get involved, to help them actively transform their own lives and communities. Through advocacy, we focus on changing unjust systems that keep people from realizing their full potential. Through training, we help parishioners understand and act on Catholic Social Teaching. Our two primary objectives are as follows: 1) To provide training and support to parish social minstry committees in Monroe County, focused on education and action addressing the root causes of poverty. 2) To serve as a catalyst and coordinator of advocacy activities at Catholic Family Center and with the parishes of Monroe County in collaboration with ecumenical, interfaith and community groups, focusing on the root causes of poverty. |
