Purpose:

For the Hebrew people, salt symbolized hospitality, durability, and purity.To eat bread and salt together was to make an unbreakable league of friendship.The SALT Retreat is a locally organized and implemented experience of Christian justice and service for the older high school youth of the diocese. During the experience the youth explore many of the important social justice issues that confront our community including poverty, racism, unemployment and homelessness.Each day the youth will participate in hands-on service opportunities and learn about the issues that effect the dignity of people in our community. It is our hope that they will come away from the experience with the knowledge and skills necessary to become people of hospitality with a durable commitment and pure hope for the well being of all people.
