After School Program Supervisor – St. Joseph, Penfield, NY

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The After School Program Supervisor employed by Saint Joseph Parish provides leadership in the form of instruction or supervision to specific programs or activities in after school setting during the school year. This may involve providing leadership on a one-to-one basis or working with groups of individuals as the instructor in programs or activities. The After School Program Supervisor also serves as the main point of contact for parents and the school/parish. SUPERVISION: This position comes under the direct supervision of the Saint Joseph School Principal. The After School Program Supervisor is responsible for following and carrying out all of the workplace expectations and policies and procedures of the Saint Joseph Parish.  SUPERVISION Responsibilities:  The After School Program Supervisor directly supervises other staff members and has the responsibility of supervising after school care associates assisting in the organization and implementation of a program or activities.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The essential duties for the After School Program Supervisor include but are not limited to: 1. To supervise site After School Care Staff and students; 2. To ensure activities and site are safe for participants and staff; 3. To determine appropriate staff ratios and communicate with after school care staff'; 4.  To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in specified programs; 5. To prepare instructional objectives and lesson plans; 6. To supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities.  7.  To maintain program areas by cleaning up after activities and maintaining a safe environment; 8. To positively and successfully perform within work team dynamics; 9. To issue, receive, maintain, and inventory recreation equipment and supplies;  10. To maintain attendance/activity records and make required reports in a timely fashion; 11. To enhance the program or activities by student/parental participant solicitation or feedback; 12. To make recommendations to the School Principal and any concerns regarding operations, safety, or procedures on a weekly basis.  13. Other duties as assigned by the School Principal Hugh A. Hogle IV.  QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of: 1. Specific program or activity to which is instructed; 2. Use of effective teaching strategies to develop after school curriculum; 3. Working with youth or adults with varying degrees of ability; 4. General understanding of youth development and proper disciplinary actions; 5. Education & practical training in sports, fitness, games, crafts, cooking, science, outdoor recreation and other recreational and cultural activities; 6. Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. Ability to:  1. Effectively communicate through written, verbal and computer applications; 2. Work effectively with people in a fast paced dynamic environment; 3. Enjoy working and interacting with students’ ages 5-12 years of age; 4. Organize and plan a school wide after school program; 5. Pass a pre-employment background check; 6. To deal in a courteous, knowledgeable & tactful manner with participants, parents, staff and the general public.  EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:  3-5 years of experience working with children; 1-3 years in a supervisory role preferred; Previous experience in the leading or instruction of various ages and abilities preferred.  LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Possess current American Red Cross C.P.R. and First aid certifications or be able to eligible to receive the training after hire.  PHYSICAL SKILLS: While performing the duties of this position, the After School Program Supervisor may be frequently required to sit, stand, reach, walk, run, manipulate objects tools or controls, and communicate. The position may require mobility and the occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination may be required to operate such as but not limited to, art tools, play equipment, program equipment, and standard.
