Assistant DirectorNewman Catholic Community at Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking a full-time Assistant Director.

 

This full-time, twelve-month Diocese of Rochester position has two equal and distinctive interconnecting purposes: to serve as Catholic Campus Minister to the students at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT); and as Assistant Director of the RIT Newman Catholic Community building a sustainable model for Catholic Campus Ministry at RIT.  These inseparable purposes are lived out in a unifying manner with RIT students, diocesan and college administration, local residents, alumni, parents, and members of the RIT Center for Religious Life.

 

Overview of responsibilities:

 

  • Articulate and implement a long range strategic plan and vision for the RIT Newman Catholic Community in conjunction with the Director of RIT Newman Catholic Community.
  • Provide for the Catholic sacramental and pastoral care of the undergraduate and graduate student populations, faculty, staff and local residents at RIT.
  • Build student leadership.
  • Maintain and build upon the long term relationship among RIT Newman, RIT administration, and RIT Center for Religious Life with ongoing and open dialogue to foster a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that enhances growth and supports mutual interests and needs.
  • Provide direct supervision and oversight of all staff and volunteers, and administrative responsibilities including budgeting and diocesan and college policies.
  • Manage Advancement responsibilities that engage and expand alumni and parent support and work to establish integrated services with College Development officials.

Specific responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee and provide for the Sacramental needs of students and local residents throughout the calendar year.   This includes: planning, coordinating and attending all liturgical celebrations; arranging opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. (15%)
  • Attend to and support the pastoral and spiritual care of students; provide engaging visionary leadership and empower student leadership through oversight of Catholic student ministries and events (Planning retreats, providing opportunities for faith formation, service activities and social events). (30%)
  • Provide direct oversight of all administrative functions including supervision and support for all staff, volunteers and student workers; convene regular Finance Council meetings; implement all Diocese of Rochester regulations for Safe and Sacred/Creating Safe Environment and working with Director to build a RIT Newman Alumni/Parent Advisory Board. (20%)
  • Serve as primary Development Officer enhancing and overseeing current Annual Giving program (newsletter, appeal mailings, emails) while working with Director to develop strategies for Major and Planned Giving programs. (20%)
  • Communicate frequently with direct supervisor; coordinate onsite Newman staff/volunteer meetings and participate with and support RIT Office of Religious Life. (5%)
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. (10%)

This position reports directly to the Director of RIT Newman Catholic Community.

 

Requirements

 

  • A practicing Catholic who understands, appreciates, and will ensure the Catholic character, mission, and identity of the Community.
  • Ability to relate to young adults.
  • Willingness to work weekends and some nights.
  • M.Div. or MA in theology (or other related Master level degree) or minimum of 3 years’ experience in related area.
  • Strong pastoral ministry skills.
  •  A demonstrated ability to develop leadership skills and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to provide effective management, supervisory and organizational skills (i.e., judgment, appropriate confidentiality and budget management).
  • Proficiency with electronic platforms, social media and software programs.
  • Comfort with public ministerial roles, teaching, and public speaking.
