Rochester Catholic Schools Celebrate Catholic Schools Week and

150th Anniversary of the Diocese of Rochester

 

ROCHESTER, NY, January, 19, 2018 —  The Diocese of Rochester Department of Catholic Schools will celebrate Catholic Schools week from January 28 - February 3, 2018 in all 18 schools. This year also marks the 150th Anniversary of the Diocese of Rochester, which will be highlighted throughout the week in class projects and special activities.

 

“Catholic Schools Week is a time for our schools to connect with the community and show the quality of a Catholic education.” says Dr. Anthony Cook III, Superintendent of Diocese of Rochester Catholic Schools. “Students will participate in daily themed activities that highlight community service, faith, and family. This year, they will also participate in special projects that honor the 150th Anniversary of the Diocese of Rochester.”

 

Daily themes include: Celebrating Your Parish, Celebrating Your Community, and Celebrating Your Nation. Selected students from each of the 18 Catholic Schools will also attend a Mass presided by The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano, 9th Bishop of Rochester, at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Wednesday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m.

 

“The Mass is a fantastic opportunity to see all 18 schools come together. Each school is represented by an individual school flag that students carry up to the altar to be recognized,” says Dr. Cook. “It is a memorable event that unites all 18 Catholic School and demonstrates the faith and community of Catholic Schools.”

 

Diocese of Rochester Catholic Schools include 18 schools from Monroe County, the Finger Lakes region, and the Southern Tier. Students who attend Diocese of Rochester Catholic Schools regularly take part in community service projects that benefit both local and global communities.
