Sundays and Holy Days

Information

In the 48 contigous states of the United States and in Alaska, the six holy days of obligations are:

  • Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
  • The Nativity of the Lord
  • Mary, the Mother of God
  • The Ascension of the Lord
  • The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven
  • All Saints

*Sunday, the Lord's Day, is always observed as a holy day of obligation.

In the diocese of the United States, when a Holy Day of obligation falls on a Saturday or Monday, with the exceptions of the Immaculate Conception (december 8) and the Nativity of the Lord (December 25), the celebration of Eucharist is not obligatory.
