Asian-Pacific Apostolate

Mission:

The Church's loving care for the newcomers in our midst is manifest in the work

of the Asian-Pacific Apostolate. We strive to minister pastoral care to Asian-Pacific Catholics throughout the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester. In pursuit of this mission, our work will be guided by these values: to be a collaborative church; to call forth lay leadership; to utilize fully the richness of our diversity; to be open, trusting and respectful in our dialogue with one another; to engage in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

Primary Function:

To support and enhance parish ministry with Asian-Pacific Catholics throughout the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.

Minister:

  • work with parish staffs and lay leaders to strengthen relationships with the Asian-Pacific communities in the parishes
  • work with appropriate diocesan offices to identify resources for parishes seeking to strengthen their ministry among Asian-Pacific persons
  • Participate at Regional and National conferences to network with and impact the greater Church
  • Participate on diocesan and local community agency boards, task forces and hearings to ensure representation of Asian-Pacific communities
  • Assist with lay leadership development from within Asian-Pacific communities
  • Work together with Asian-Pacific leaders in making decisions and in matters concerning Asian-Pacific ministries; maintain ongoing relationships
  • Bring to light the pastoral and social concerns of the Asian-Pacific communities
  • Provide for lay leadership formation among Asian-Pacific Catholics, especially in the areas of lifelong faith formation, consistent life ethic, women in church and society and small Christian communities
  • Research language and culturally appropriate liturgical, training and development, and educational materials
  • Coordinate training in Asian Pacific cultural sensitive and awareness
  • Serve as the diocesan contact for special cultural/religious community events
  • Facilitate assistance to person in need by networking with appropriate parish leadership, community leaders, and agencies
