JOB POSTING: MUSIC DIRECTOR (PART-TIME)
St. Thomas More Church, part of the St. Thomas More/Our Lady Queen of Peace Cluster in Brighton, NY is seeking a Part-Time Music Director.
REPORTS TO: Pastor
QUALIFICATIONS
- collaborative spirit to work on a team dedicated to pastoral service and community
- deep familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgy and music
- 2-5 years of experience in a church setting
- exceptional conducting, organ, and piano skills
- excellent sight-reading
- enthusiastic spirit to work with a volunteer music ministry
- ability to manage professional cantors and choral scholars
- excellent planning, communication, and organization skills
- ability to create worship aids for larger liturgies
- willing to serve in a variety of settings including: weekend Masses, funerals, weddings, solemnities, and various other services
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Music Director will…
- serve as principal organist at all liturgies (4:30pm Saturday Vigil, and 11:00 am Sunday Mass, additional as required)
- serve as conductor of the liturgical choir, an ensemble made up of volunteers and professional choral scholars
- collaborate with existing donors to maintain the music ministry budget, and foster new relationships to maintain the music ministry
- produce a yearly calendar for the STM music ministry
- produce quarterly music selections for all liturgies in the church calendar including choral repertoire
- compile music and hymns for president’s binder
- report copyright information to One License
- collaborate with the pastoral team and choir to determine the need for concerts/evenings of reflection. In the past there were annual Christmas and Lenten offerings. These are not required, however.
- contract and hire professional instrumentalists for larger solemnities in the church year
- coordinate with volunteer choral librarians to maintain the library
- continually recruit potential members to the music ministry and foster a welcoming spirit, collaboration, service, excellence, and ministry
- maintain the church’s instruments:
1) 3-manual Rodgers/Moller hybrid organ
2) grand piano in the choir loft
3) upright piano in the gathering space
4) 26’’ and 29’’ Ludwig timpani in the choir loft
- oversee church’s amplification system and work with outside vendors for necessary repairs/updates
- be encouraged to attend biweekly staff meetings
- additional duties as assigned by the pastor
Example of Proficient Wage Structure:
- $150 for regular weekend liturgies organist
- $150 for funerals organist
- $150 for weddings organist
- $55 for rehearsals
