Peace of Christ Parish is seeking a part-time receptionist starting July 1, 2024. Pay Range: $15 to $18 per hour

POSITION PURPOSE:  Responsible for operating telephone system, distributing mail, greeting and referring visitors and providing a variety of other clerical services.

LIST OF POSSIBLE JOB DUTIES FOR SERIES:

  1. Answers incoming telephone calls and forwards appropriately; receives visitors and responds to their needs or refers them to appropriate person or place.
  2. Assures timely and accurate receipt of telephone messages.
  3. Provides general information to persons calling or visiting the parish or school and utilizes other church, social service, community and/or government directories to provide accurate and helpful information.
  4. Assures incoming and outgoing mail and/or packages are handled appropriately.  Opens and distributes incoming mail and packages and assures outgoing mail is taken to the mail box on a daily basis.  Assists in bulk mailings.
  5. Prepares labels and envelopes for mailings and assists with photo copying or duplicating of materials as requested.
  6. Assists with preparation of meeting rooms.
  7. May coordinate the scheduling of parish or school facilities.  Receptionist maintains calendar and maintains key checkout system for use of facilities.
  8. May provide assistance to parishioners requesting Mass retreats, Mass cards and information about stipends.
  9. Provides clerical assistance as requested including typing and maintenance of files.
  10. Performs entry of data into computer files.
  11. May order supplies as requested, issue receipts for revenue and otherwise assist bookkeeper as needed.
  12. May open the parish or school office in the morning and close it in the evening.  Assures that all machines are turned off, the answering machine is on, windows and doors are closed and locked, and all appropriate lights and heat are off.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community.  (Sometimes this requirement may be satisfied by a person who has knowledge of and is willing to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church.)
  2. Some High School course work for entry level; equivalent to High School graduation for experienced level.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.
  4. Ability to relate well with people by phone or in person.
  5. Excellent verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  7. Ability to accurately record messages and refer visitors or callers.
