Pastoral Visitor at Holy Apostles Parish – part time (20 hours per week)
Hourly Wage: $20.00/per hour
The Pastoral Visitor is primarily focused on providing pastoral care for those who are shut-ins, hospitalized, and in nursing homes and may be sick, infirm, or in the process of dying. Its focus will also be to give attention to those who are Seniors coming to church, but also may be challenged physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
This position will be for 20 hours weekly, and its basic requirements are the following:
- Visiting those in our parish that are shut-ins and home bound, as well as those hospitalized and in nursing homes, minimally once a month. Ample time is to be taken with each visit to inquire about the person’s well-being medically and spiritually. Prayer should be part of each visit, as well as the giving of Holy Communion, as appropriate. As a result of these visits and how they are conducted, hopefully, the person being visited will feel cherished by the Lord and by you as a representative of Holy Apostles Parish and the Church.
- Reports of visits need to be given to the Pastor on a weekly basis, unless more immediate attention is needed. Any desire for Confession should be shared in a timely manner and a need for Anointing or Last Rites or any other emergency need should be shared with the Pastor immediately.
- At times it may be appropriate for the Pastoral Visitor to attend or help with a Wake Service on behalf of family and loved ones of someone who has passed.
- As time goes on and this ministry develops, the Pastoral Visitor may help to empower and coordinate parish volunteers in this area of pastoral care.
- Facilitates a weekly Bible Study during the day primarily for Seniors.
- Creates Social Events for seniors on occasion throughout the year.
- Provides a Monthly Bulletin for shut-ins and distributes them during the visits each month.
- Is a welcoming presence in our Parish and when in the Rectory, engages and helps to take care of neighbors coming to our door with various needs and in answering the phone when others may be occupied.
- Attends Mass at Holy Apostles so that relationships are built and able to grow in the context of the parish.
- Participates in the major events of our parish throughout the year, e.g. The Christmas Blessing project, The Easter Bread Distribution, etc.
- Receives on-going supervision with the Pastor bi-weekly, and meets with a support team once every three months.
- Attends and actively participates at all Staff Meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
