Catechetical Coordinator/Youth Minister – Full Time

F.T. CATECHETICAL COORDINATOR/YOUTH MINISTER 

Location: Peace of Christ Parish

Reports to: Parish Pastor

POSITION PURPOSE: To provide Christian formation, religious education and sacramental preparation to members of the parish faith community.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Planning, overseeing and administering the parish religious education program in a parish, utilizing a variety of resources.  This includes; recruitment and training of volunteers; planning programs for adults, teens, children; and evaluating program curricula.  Also, coordinates the RCIA, Catechesis of the Good Shepard (CGS) and Sacramental preparation programs.

1. Collaborates with the pastor and other staff in implementing the mission of the Parish.  This is accomplished by participating in the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of parish goals and objectives, with specific focus on youth ministry.  Serves as a professional resource to parish staff regarding youth ministry.  Also participates and cooperates in cluster/\multiple parish planning and collaboration efforts.
2. Assures the development of youth activities that foster spiritual formation.  This includes, but not be limited to, socials, recreation, athletic activities, outreach programs liturgies, retreats and community service opportunities.
3. Assures the development and implementation of faith formation programs.  Responsible for the following: recruiting, enabling, directing, training and supervising catechists and other personnel for faith formation programs. Oversee the administration of these programs, including publicity, organization, and implementation.
4. Assures on-going faith development opportunities.  This is accomplished by organizing liturgical celebrations by creating opportunities where people can learn how God is present to them in their life experiences, and by recruiting and training volunteers to facilitate opportunities to experience God in their lives.
5. Assists the pastor in carrying out activities required of him in the ministry.  This is accomplished by planning and scheduling programs/events with the pastor to help meet the needs of parish, determining with the pastor how his pastoral presence can most effectively be experienced, and sharing information, as appropriate, regarding families/youth in crisis to strategize an effective response to the situation.
6. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for this ministry.   This is accomplished by regular updating, through reading, and participation at workshops, conventions, etc.  Also participates in local, regional, and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
7. Prepares, monitors, and manages a budget for the catechetical and youth ministries
8. Works as a cooperative team member with parish and school staff providing religious education expertise.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies or related field and parish experience OR Diocesan Certification for the position.
• A strong experience of God in one’s own life, and an ability to both share one’s personal faith journey and enable others to do the same.
• Active membership in a faith community of the Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Rochester.
• Ability to articulate a personal vision of spirituality, justice and community.
• Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills.
• Ability to function effectively in a team or collaborative ministry setting.
• Certified or willing to seek certification in the Catechesis of the Good Sheppard.

Pay Range: $23 – $25 per hour.
