St. Francis de Sales – St. Stephen School, a Catholic elementary school serving students in Preschool through Grade 6, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Music Teacher to join our school community.
This position is a one day per week for general music instruction.
- The role may expand to two days per week for a candidate who is able to provide and/or conduct band lessons, instrumental instruction, and/or student choir.
- There may be an opportunity for additional days of employment for a candidate interested in serving as a music teacher at other Catholic schools in the surrounding area.
Position Overview
The Music Teacher will provide engaging general music instruction that fosters creativity, appreciation for music, and student participation. Depending on the candidate’s skills and interests, the position may be expanded to include band, instrumental lessons, and choir direction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach general music classes to students in Preschool through Grade 6 one day per week.
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate music lessons that support student growth and enjoyment of music.
- Integrate music instruction within the mission and Catholic identity of the school.
- Prepare students for school performances and liturgical celebrations as appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities (Expanded Position)
Candidates with additional musical expertise may also have the opportunity to:
- Provide individual or small-group band lessons.
- Conduct and direct the school band.
- Offer instruction in other instruments.
- Direct a student choir.
- Prepare students for performances at school events and Masses.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field preferred.
- New York State teaching certification preferred.
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students preferred.
- Ability to teach general music instruction.
- Experience with band, instrumental instruction, and/or choir direction is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Support for the mission and values of Catholic education.
Wage: Hourly starting at $17.00 per hour
