![]() Becket Hall is a residential program for young men, at least 20 years of age, who are discerning a call to priesthood in the Diocese of Rochester. It is currently located at 219 Stenson Street, Rochester, NY 14606. Founded by Bishop Joseph Hogan in 1965, Becket Hall was located on the campus of St. John Fisher College. It was moved to Gregory St. in 1984 and, in 2006, moved again to its current location in the former rectory of Most Precious Blood Parish. Men living at Becket Hall experience a form of community living, as they complete the necessary requirements for the seminary. During their stay, residents engage in supervised apostolic work as determined by the director, participate in the community life of Becket Hall, and may also be enrolled in college courses and/or employed. Becket Hall seeks to be a “spiritual place, a way of life, an atmosphere that fosters and ensures a process of formation, so that the person who is called to the priesthood by God may become, with the sacrament of orders, a living image of Jesus Christ, head and shepherd of the Church.” (Pastores Dabo Vobis, 42) The Becket Hall program addresses initial priestly formation in the areas of spiritual, human, academic and pastoral life. The typical length of stay at Becket Hall is one year. During that period, the candidate builds a relationship with the Diocese of Rochester while formally discerning God's call for him. If you would like more information about Becket Hall, or to visit, contact the Office of Vocation Awareness. A Message From the Rector My Dear Friend, It is in the Gospel of St. John, chapter 1 verse 39, that we read, “Where
do you live?” Through prayer and inquiry you may have been searching and, now, come to a point where you find yourself anxious to see where the Lord dwells in your life, in the community of faith to which you belong, and in the service that community, or Church, offers to the needy and poor among us. I invite you to consider joining the Becket Hall family as a discerner.
In this capacity, Be assured of my prayers and best wishes as you continue on your journey of faith! Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Michael Conboy |
