Coordinator of Christian Formation

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Coordinator of Christian Formation is responsible for planning, overseeing and administering the
parish Christian Formation Program and Sacramental Preparation.

The position is Full Time at 35 hours per week.

Hourly position, starting at $20.00/per hour.

JOB DUTIES:
1. Collaboration with the Pastor. Coordinates the development and implementation of the Christian
Formation Programs for the parish, in cooperation with the pastor. Helps accompany and provide
support to the families of the parish in their Christian Formation journey.
2. Member of the Parish Staff. Collaborates in cooperative ventures with related parish programs,
ministries, and individuals. Participates in staff meetings and assists in the planning and participation
in parish liturgies, e.g. celebration of First Penance, First Eucharist, and other opportunities for prayer
and faith sharing.
3. Catechetical Scope. Coordinates Christian Formation including Parent-led Catechesis (two parent
sessions and a family session per month), Confirmation Program (two catechetical sessions per
month) within the Youth Program, and the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults Program (year-long
inquiry, and September to Easter periods of catechumenate and mystagogy), includes program
development, resource evaluation and planning for support staff and catechist recruitment and
training.
4. Sacramental Scope. Plans and implements sacramental processes, including formation of families
and children preparing for First Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation, and the related
sacramental aspects of the OCIA Program.
5. Youth Program. Develop opportunities to gather the youth and promote young discipleship in Christ
– with catechetical (outside Confirmation), social, and service (Parents Night Out, in collaboration
with the Post Cana Marriage Ministry) components.
6. Staff and Catechist Management. Participates in the interviewing, hiring, training, supervising and
evaluating of support staff and catechists. Convenes staff and catechist meetings as delegated.
Assures all staff have accurate and current job descriptions. Assures development and maintenance
of accurate record keeping for all catechetical processes. Purchases and allocates materials as
needed.
7. Budget Management. Administers budget including monitoring and evaluation of use of funds,
identifying potential budgetary needs and requesting funds; drafting, presenting, and defending
catechetical budget for appropriate catechetical processes.
8. Library and Resources. Supervises the ongoing maintenance of the parish resource center and
library. This is accomplished by making decisions regarding purchases for the library, and by
soliciting volunteer help to assist in cataloguing and daily maintenance of resource library.
9. CASE Training. Be a qualified trainer for CASE training and ensure that all volunteers have a Criminal
Record Check, signed the Code of Conduct and have gone through the CASE training.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community.
2. College degree in Religious Studies, Theology, or equivalent Diocesan Certification for the position.
3. Knowledge of Theology and Religious Education trends and methods.
4. Knowledge of related fields of psychology, education, sociology and communication.
5. Experience in teaching, administration, and organization.
