Care for the Marginalized through an Equitable & Just Budget

In order to be truly “New York Strong” we must first take care of those most vulnerable in our state. One way to do this is to create a budget that uses equity and justice as its guiding principles.  There are many important initiatives that need to be supported, but two that we would like to advocate for are the closing of the NYS Child Tax Credit loophole so that it will cover those who are most vulnerable - children ages 0-3. The second issue we are raising up is our concern for the over 40% of New Yorkers who have reported struggles with their mental health during the pandemic, many of whom have not been able to receive the treatment they need due to lack of providers. Many service providers are finding it extremely difficult to provide the critical services at current rates.  Therefore, we are also petitioning for a 5.4% COLA and a $500 million investment in workforce, service, and support in the Executive Budget.

Atención a los marginados a través de un presupuesto equitativo y justo

Para ser verdaderamente “Nueva York Fuerte”, primero debemos cuidar a los más vulnerables de nuestro estado. Una forma de hacer esto es crear un presupuesto que utilice la equidad y la justicia como sus principios rectores. Hay muchas iniciativas importantes que necesitan apoyo, pero dos por las que nos gustaría abogar son el cierre de la escapatoria del Crédito Tributario por Hijos del Estado de Nueva York para que cubra a los más vulnerables: niños de 0 a 3 años. El segundo problema que planteamos es nuestra preocupación por más del 40 % de los neoyorquinos que informaron haber tenido problemas con su salud mental durante la pandemia, muchos de los cuales no han podido recibir el tratamiento que necesitan debido a la falta de proveedores. A muchos proveedores de servicios les resulta extremadamente difícil proporcionar los servicios críticos a las tarifas actuales. Por lo tanto, también estamos solicitando un ajuste por el costo de vida de 5.4% y una inversión de $500 millones en mano de obra, servicio y apoyo en el Presupuesto Ejecutivo.
