Non-Mandated Reporters

If you believe that a child is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local police department.

Anyone (e.g. concerned citizens, family members, neighbors) can report a case of suspected child abuse or maltreatment.  Non-mandated reporters should call (800) 635-1522 or (800) 342-3720.

Examples of non-mandated reporters:  volunteers, pastoral associates, catechetical leaders, youth ministers.

Morally it is our obligation to report suspected abuse. It is also our responsibility to cooperate fully with any subsequent investigation.

It is not the role of a church employee or a volunteer to investigate suspected sexual abuse.  That is the role of the appropriate authorities.
