“The Spiritual Pilgrim: a Catholic Invitation to Faith”
New principal at Seton
Cook appointed new principal at
Seton Catholic School in Brighton
Anne Willkens Leach, superintendent of schools for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, recently announced the appointment of Anthony Cook as principal of Seton Catholic School in Brighton. Cook will start his new position on January 2.
Cook, who lives in Rochester, has been the Dean of Students for the junior high at Aquinas Institute since 2008. In addition to his current role at Aquinas Institute, he has taught a variety of subjects at the school over the past eight years, including American History, Criminal Justice and Global Studies. This past summer, he also served as an adjunct professor within the Educational Administrative Leadership Program at the University of Notre Dame.
“I am excited and blessed to join the community at Seton Catholic School,” said Cook. “As a practicing Catholic and Catholic school administrator, I am whole-heartedly committed to Catholic education. With this commitment, it is my responsibility to support the development of each child’s spiritual faith and collective growth as a school community.””
Cook received his Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Secondary Education from SUNY Geneseo. He also received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Holy Family Middle School
Catholic Schools Office Statement
on Holy Family Middle School, Elmira
Nov. 30, 2011
“Beginning in September 2012, Holy Family Middle School in Elmira will be closed. All pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade students will be housed in the current Holy Family Elementary School facilities. Those students entering the 7th and 8th grade will be invited to register for a new Regional Catholic Junior High Program to be based at Notre Dame High School. This decision was not made lightly and comes after careful consideration and much prayer.
While we are truly saddened by this decision, we are excited about the prospects for Catholic education in the Southern Tier going forward. The decision by Notre Dame High School to add a Regional Junior High means that we can continue the tradition of offering quality, faith-based education in grades Pre-K through 12 in Elmira and the surrounding communities.
We want to take this opportunity to offer sincere thanks to the faculty, staff, and parents for keeping the spirit of Catholic education alive at Holy Family Middle School for decades. We are confident that Notre Dame will welcome our students with open arms.
We believe strongly in the virtues of a Catholic education and will continue to do all we can to support the remaining schools across the Diocese of Rochester.”
